During remarks to reporters ahead of a White House dinner on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Netanyahu, who expressed appreciation and admiration for the president’s "pursuit of peace and security," presented Trump with the letter he submitted to the Nobel Peace Prize committee, nominating Trump for the award.
He's forging peace as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other," Netanyahu said. "So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It's nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved. You should get it."
A proposed deal for a 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is currently in the works. Trump said last week Israel had accepted the deal, and Hamas last week submitted a "positive response" to mediators.
