WASHINGTON (TNND) — The United States military launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
The strikes targeted the Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz nuclear facilities, utilizing American stealth bombers and the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a 30,000-pound bunker-buster bomb, according to U.S. officials.
President Donald Trump disclosed the strikes, emphasizing the collaboration with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "It was a very warm conversation, very emotional," Netanyahu said in a video message, praising Trump as a friend of Israel.
Iran's state-run IRNA news agency confirmed the attacks, reporting no signs of radioactive contamination at the targeted sites. The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization vowed to continue its nuclear activities despite the strikes, stating, "The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assures the great Iranian nation that despite the evil conspiracies of its enemies, it will not allow the development of this national industry to be stopped."
The U.S. military's involvement follows more than a week of Israeli strikes aimed at dismantling Iran's air defenses and missile capabilities. Trump warned of further military action if Iran does not pursue peace, stating, "There will either be peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days."
